Checks the Consolidated Screening List: the BIS Entity List, Denied Persons List, Unverified List and Military End-User List, the OFAC SDN and non-SDN lists, and the State Department’s debarment and nonproliferation lists.
The search is free. The record isn’t.
Anyone can search trade.gov. When BIS or an auditor asks, they want to see who checked, when, against which version of the list, and what you decided. That’s the part most small teams can’t produce.
The rules don’t scale down.
Export and sanctions rules apply whether you ship twenty orders a month or twenty thousand.
Records are what get reviewed.
An investigation looks at what you can show: the check, the list version and the decision.
Enterprise tools are sized for enterprises.
Full trade-compliance suites are sold on annual contracts built for global shippers.
Built for the person who screens every order.
Usually that’s one operations, logistics or compliance lead, doing it by hand, with no record to show for it.
Small exporters and distributors
You ship a few dozen orders a month and check names by hand on trade.gov.
Freight forwarders and customs brokers
You screen consignees for many shippers and need proof for each one.
Medtech and life-science companies
Your products ship worldwide, and your quality system expects a record of every check.
University export-control offices
Visiting scholars, vendors and collaborators, each screened and on file.
Export-compliance consultants
A workspace per client, with evidence under your own letterhead.
From a name to proof.

Type a name, or drop in a spreadsheet.
Matching looks past spelling, transliteration, word order, initials and company suffixes, so “Mohamad” still finds “Muhammad,” and “Ltd” never hides a listed company. Upload up to 5,000 rows at once.

3Keep the proof
Every check becomes evidence.
Each check is written to an append-only record, linked to the one before it by a SHA-256 hash, and stamped with the exact list version used. Export a PDF for one check or a whole quarter when an auditor asks.

Questions
Which lists does it check?
The U.S. Consolidated Screening List published by the International Trade Administration. It combines the BIS Entity List, Denied Persons List, Unverified List and Military End-User List, the OFAC SDN and non-SDN lists, and State Department lists. The list is refreshed daily and its version is stamped on every result.
What does “No match found” mean?
The name didn’t match any entry on those lists, as of the list date shown, at the matching threshold in use. It is a record that a check happened, not a clearance. The compliance decision stays yours.
Why not just use the free search on trade.gov?
The government search is free and good. It doesn’t keep a record of who checked what, when, against which list version, or what you decided about a possible match. That record is what an auditor or investigator asks for.
Is this legal advice?
No. SanctionTrail helps you screen and keep records. It doesn’t make compliance determinations, license determinations or classifications.
When does it launch, and what does the founding price mean?
Launch is planned for early 2027. Founding customers keep $29 a month on Starter for as long as they stay subscribed. Nothing is charged until launch, and you can drop out before then.
Do you keep the names I type into the free screening?
No. The free screening sends the name to the government’s search service and shows you the result. We keep only an anonymous count of screenings.
